RMS-III: REFERENCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM 4-20-95
RMS-III is a personal system for managing entry, search, and report
of bibliographic data. It is an annotated, menu driven system. It
provides full compatability with dBASE III and III+(R) type files.
It requires a fully IBM compatiable system with at least 512kb of
available memory. Installation to a hard disk requires at least
1200 kb of free disk space. Hard disk installation is recommended
as is DOS Version 3.0 or higher. It can run (more slowly) from a high
density floppy (760kb or greater), or from two 360kb floppy drives.
A manual (abridged from typeset version) is included as RMS-MAN.DOC.
This can be read on the disk or printed with DOS print command.
New info is in README_2 and WHATSNEW.DOC.
To install, mount Distribution Disk #1 in Drive A:, set to default
(type A:), type INSTALL. Installation is required to expand (unzip)
several files so that they can be used; the files on the distribution
disk are compressed and are not directly useable. Once installed,
the best way to examine the program is to run it. There are DEMO
database files included and the default choices will carry you
through most of the program.
( MORE )
RMS-III is distributed in both 'pre-licensed' and 'shareware' forms,
the latter with a limited license (see LICENSE.DOC file). Both are
fully operational and functionally identical. An 'UNLICENSED' note
is displayed until a license number is entered. Shareware users can
obtain this number as outlined in the ORDER.DOC & RMS-MAN.DOC files.
Pre-licensed purchasers will find this number along with a registra-
tion card (please mail).
Full licensing & registration is important: it assures that you can be
informed of new features, corrections, up-dates, and availability of
new publication-specific output style files and import/export options.
Also, registered users are entitled to support (by mail, fax or phone,
7-10pm EST) for a minimum of three months from date of registration.
A translation utility, TSX, is included with fully licensed copies.
It integrates into RMS-III, extending the capability for import and
export of many other data formats (several 'ON-LINE' source formats,
REFER and BibTeX structures, and user-defined formats). It may not be
needed by all users, but its availability assures high portability of
data you have entered. (For shareware users wanting to test the TSX
extension, a shareware-trial copy is available for $5{US}, handling.)
Thank you for considering the RMS-III. ()
A NOTE ABOUT SHAREWARE
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. It is an
alternate or supplement to pre-paid retail distribution. Copyright
laws apply in both cases and the copyright holder retains all rights.
For Shareware distribution, the copyright holder grants permission
to copy and distribute the software for TRIAL purposes, subject to
conditions stated in the documentation file. Registration numbers
are NOT to be shared. The product warranty is also stated in the
documentation files. (Services distributing software should notify
the author so that up-to-date versions can be supplied.)
If you use a Shareware program beyond initial evaluation, you must
license it for the prescribed fee. Fees are generally low, since
overhead is low. License/registration can provide added benefits
as stated above, and also provide basis for continued development
of the program. Most important, Shareware distribution provides
the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't like and use the
product, you don't pay for it!
This program is produced by a member of the Association of Shareware
Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a shareware-
related problem with an ASP member by contacting the member directly,
ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can help to resolve a
dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not provide technical
support for members' products. Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at
545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442 or send a CompuServe message via
CompuServe Mail to ASP Ombudsmann 70007,3536.
